History
Hyderabad was founded in 1768 by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro as the capital of Sindh, under the Kalhora dynasty. It later became an important cultural and administrative centre under the Talpur rulers. Over time, Hyderabad’s strategic location and its mix of ruler-influences (Kalhora, Talpur, British) have left a rich legacy of forts, tombs, and historic buildings.
Culture
The city is steeped in Sindhi culture — language, music, festivals, and art. Hyderabad is famous for its ornate bangles, traditional dress, and handicrafts. The annual cultural events, religious celebrations and street-life reflect a blend of Muslim, Hindu, and Sufi influences. The art of storytelling, poetry, and folk songs remain alive in its bazaars and community gatherings.
