Bagrot Valley lies south of Gilgit, hemmed in by the glaciated peaks of Rakaposhi and Diran, and is popular with trekkers heading toward the base camps beneath those mountains. The valley floor is dotted with small villages and terraced fields, giving a working, lived-in character alongside its dramatic mountain backdrop. It's a starting point for longer treks as much as a destination in its own right.
