Naltar Valley is reached by a mountain road climbing away from Gilgit, opening into a forested landscape of pine trees, alpine meadows and small lakes that feels noticeably different from the drier terrain around the city itself. In winter, the valley's slopes support a small ski resort, one of the few in the region. The combination of accessible mountain scenery and relative proximity to Gilgit makes it a popular day trip.
