The Red Fort overlooks Muzaffarabad from a position near the confluence of the Neelum and Jhelum rivers, built by the region's former rulers to command that strategic meeting point. Its walls and remaining structures give a sense of the fort's original defensive purpose, and the view from its elevated position takes in both rivers as they merge below. It remains one of the clearest physical links to the city's pre-modern history.
