Khaplu Palace, in the town of Khaplu near Skardu, is a restored royal residence that blends Tibetan, Kashmiri and Central Asian architectural influences, a reflection of the region's position at the crossroads of these different cultural spheres. Like Shigar Fort, it now operates partly as a heritage guesthouse, allowing visitors to experience the building's interior rather than viewing it only from outside. The carved wooden balconies and courtyards are a particular highlight.
