The Astore side of Deosai National Park gives access to the same vast high-altitude plateau reached from Skardu, known for its open grassland, summer wildflowers and resident wildlife. Approaching from Astore offers a different route onto the plateau than the more commonly used Skardu approach, and the landscape itself, wide, rolling and largely treeless, contrasts sharply with the steep valleys surrounding it on either side.
