Delhi Gate is one of the surviving entrances to the Walled City, historically the starting point for the road east toward Delhi. Passing through it drops visitors straight into the old city's bazaar lanes, with the restored gateway itself giving a sense of scale for how the city was once enclosed and defended. Conservation work in recent years has cleaned up the surrounding streetscape, making the approach to Wazir Khan Mosque from this side one of the more atmospheric ways to enter the old city.
