The Tomb of Anarkali sits within the grounds of the Punjab Civil Secretariat and is tied to one of Lahore's most enduring legends, the story of a court figure said to have been entombed here by imperial order. Whatever the historical truth behind the tale, the octagonal marble structure itself, with its carved inscriptions, has been repurposed and altered over the centuries, including a period of use as a church and later as a government archive.
