The old fort area of Multan, sometimes referred to as Qasim Fort, sits on the elevated mound that has anchored the city's defences and religious sites for centuries, including the shrines of Bahauddin Zakariya and other notable figures. Much of the original fort structure has faded or been built over, but the mound itself, with its concentration of historic tombs and mosques, remains the historical core of the old city. Walking the area gives a sense of how Multan's religious and defensive history sit layered on top of each other.
